Dr. Piper Hays is a native of Phoenix, Ariz., but moved east to attend Purdue University’s School of Veterinary Medicine. Preferring the Midwest – with its actual seasons, greenery, and slower pace of life – over the hot desert, Dr. Hays choose to stay in Indiana after graduation and happily came to work with the team at Eastside in 1995. Dr. Hays and husband Gary live with a menagerie of dogs, cats, chickens, and fish. Her pastimes includes flower gardening, dog agility training, birding, crocheting and sewing. Dr. Hays said, “Eastside is my other home, where it’s been an honor to care for other people’s pets for more than 16 years.”
Dr. Laura Strong has always had a passion for the care and companionship of animals. When she was in the 6th grade, she decided to become a veterinarian, and with the support and encouragement from her family, she pursued that dream. Dr. Strong fell in love with the Eastside community when she began working at the hospital during her high school years. In 1987, Dr. Strong graduated from the Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine, and in 1988, she joined Eastside Animal Hospital as a veterinarian. She is now the practice owner and medical director. Dr. Strong’s vision for Eastside is to provide exceptional client service and patient care while holding fast to the practice’s core values of Integrity, Compassion, Commitment, and Educational Advancement. Her loves (outside the practice) include spending time with her husband, David, and their two children, Michael and Sarah. Her animal companions are Dachshund Daisy, Whippet Sonni, American Saddlebred horses Harley, Rocket, and Heirizona – and hamsters Pork and Beans.
Dr. Lisa Powell, a graduate of Tuskegee University’s School of Veterinary Medicine, started working at Eastside in 2000, after moving to the area to be closer to her family. Dr. Powell lives with a well-rounded pack, including a German Shorthaired Pointer named Fudge, an Afghan Hound named Hayley, and a Maltipoo named Nil; although, she says the house is actually run by Dexter, the Siamese cat, and Liam, a Himalayan cat. Her favorite aspect of veterinary medicine is surgery, and she said her love of team sports is also reflected in why she loves working at Eastside: "We all act as one team working towards a common goal – the best medicine possible for your pet."

Dr. Amy Lutgen is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin’s School of Veterinary Medicine, and grew up in Wisconsin but moved to Jeffersonville, Ind., with her husband, Brian DeWitt, when she began working for Eastside Animal Hospital. Dr. Lutgen said her favorite part about being a veterinarian is seeing the amazing bond that people have with their animals. She enjoys helping people keep their special companions as healthy as they can be for as long as possible. The Lutgen Dewitts share their lives with two cats, Misty and Kali, and three dogs, Athena, Onyx, and Petrie. Dr. Lutgen enjoys hiking with the dogs, traveling and horseback riding.
Dr. Lindsay B. Miller grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio. After completing an undergraduate degree at DePauw University, she earned her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Purdue. She and her husband, Keith, now live in Louisville with their 12-year-old Lab, Zoe, two- year-old Golden Retriever, Dexter, and three cats, named Belle, Frankie and Marvin. Dr. Miller loves working at Eastside because she gets to see so many different types of cases, form close bonds with our clients and their pets, and work with multiple top-notch doctors. Dr. Miller especially enjoys helping pets with nutritional issues and incorporating diets into treatment regimens to help pets live longer, healthier lives.
Dr. Andrea Crum obtained a degree in biochemistry from Western Kentucky University and then earned her veterinary degree from Auburn University, completing a path she was sure of at only five years old and full of love for her own cats and dogs. Today, she continues to love five animals of her own and also enjoys seeing firsthand the love that clients have for their pets. She believes in treating each patient as if it were her own, and said it’s imperative to provide the very best care available. Dr. Crum lives in Jeffersonville, Ind., with her husband, Ryan, three dogs (Emmit, Phoebe and Milhouse) and two cats (Libby and LeRoy).
